Roku Launches First All-AI-Generated FAST Channel, Testing CTV Audience Appetite

The Development

Roku has launched Fairground AI, a free ad-supported streaming TV channel hosted within Roku's FAST interface that exclusively features AI-generated films and short-form content. The channel is operated by Fairground Entertainment, a distribution company working with more than 100 AI creators and 40 studios. Any creator can submit content to Fairground's distribution network and earn a share of ad revenue generated. The channel is expanding to more than five CTV and FAST platforms in August 2026, though Fairground has not named them. CEO Colin Petrie-Norris described it as bringing 'AI Cinema to entirely new audiences at scale across the connected TV ecosystem.' This marks the first dedicated, ad-monetised FAST channel built entirely around AI-generated video content on a major CTV platform.

Our Take

Fairground AI is a proof-of-concept for a new content supply chain, and Roku is betting that AI-generated video can fill FAST inventory cheaply enough to be profitable even at low CPMs. The more important signal here is structural: a distribution layer built exclusively for AI content normalises it as a programming category rather than a novelty. Advertisers running on this channel will face brand safety questions that current verification tooling is not equipped to answer — AI-generated content sits outside the standard content classification frameworks used by most brand suitability vendors. The brands that get ahead of this are the ones who define their own adjacency standards now, before scale forces the conversation.

3

What Changed

A structured distribution and monetisation pipeline for AI-generated video content now exists within mainstream CTV. AI creators can access living-room audiences and generate ad revenue without traditional production infrastructure, studio relationships, or broadcast deals — collapsing the barrier between AI content creation and premium screen distribution.

4

Marketing Impact

Media planning and brand safety functions are most immediately affected. Buying against AI-generated FAST inventory requires adjacency policies that most brands have not written. Performance-focused CTV advertisers may find low-CPM inventory attractive, but without content classification standards, brand suitability is currently ungovernable at scale.

5

Competitive Implication

FAST platforms that move early to host AI content channels gain cheap programming inventory and new ad supply. Brand verification vendors without AI content classification capability become a gap in the standard CTV buying stack, creating an opening for newer entrants or rapid product extensions from players like Integral Ad Science or DoubleVerify.

6

Strategic Outlook

More FAST platforms will follow Roku in hosting dedicated AI content channels as the economics are self-evident — zero content acquisition cost, ad revenue split with creators. Advertiser demand will depend on whether brand safety infrastructure develops fast enough to make the inventory buyable at scale for risk-averse brands.

7

The Exploit

Action Item

Brand safety leads at CTV-active advertisers should draft AI-generated content adjacency policies now and pressure their verification vendors — DoubleVerify, Integral Ad Science — for a classification roadmap before Q4 2026 buying season locks in.
