Manufact Raises $6.3M to Build MCP Infrastructure as Agent-First Software Arrives
The Development
Manufact, a San Francisco and Zurich-based startup from Y Combinator's Summer 2025 batch, raised $6.3 million in seed funding in February led by Peak XV, with participation from Liquid 2 Ventures, Ritual Capital, Pioneer Fund, and Y Combinator. The company builds open-source tooling and cloud infrastructure around Anthropic's Model Context Protocol—an open standard donated to the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation in December 2025 and now supported by ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and VS Code. MCP has reached 10,000 active public servers and 7 million monthly downloads. Manufact's core SDK, mcp-use, has surpassed 5 million downloads and 9,000 GitHub stars, with reported usage by NASA, Nvidia, and SAP. The company is targeting $2–3 million ARR by end of 2026 and will present at the Linux Foundation's MCP Dev Summit in New York on April 2–3.
Our Take
The Vercel analogy Manufact's founders use is the right frame—but the marketing implication is sharper than the developer story suggests. Pederzani's warning that software without MCP access risks becoming a 'dumb database' is already materializing: buyers are actively choosing vendors with MCP servers over those without. For martech platforms, this is a distribution threat disguised as a developer workflow story. ChatGPT has 800 million users. If agents become the dominant interface for accessing software—and MCP is the protocol those agents use—then a marketing platform's MCP presence becomes as strategically important as its API or its app store listing. The companies that treat MCP as a developer checkbox will lose the customer relationship to whichever agent sits in front of their product.
The Exploit
Action Item
If your martech platform has no public MCP server, brief your product team before the April 2–3 MCP Dev Summit sets the competitive baseline—vendors presenting there will use it as proof of agent-readiness in Q2 sales cycles.
