Claude Gains Shared Context Across Excel and PowerPoint, Enabling One-Click Enterprise Workflows
The Development
Anthropic on March 11 launched updated Claude add-ins for Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint that share full conversation context across both applications in a single continuous session. Paid Claude users on Mac and Windows can now, for example, have Claude build a trading comps table in Excel and immediately drop the valuation summary into a PowerPoint deck without re-explaining the dataset. Enterprises can access the add-ins through existing LLM gateways routing to Claude on Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry. The centerpiece feature is Skills—saved, reusable workflows stored inside the add-in sidebars and available organization-wide with one click. Preloaded Skills include DCF and LBO template population in Excel and competitive landscape deck building in PowerPoint. Anthropic separately distinguishes Skills from Instructions, which set persistent formatting and style preferences across sessions.
Our Take
The Skills feature is the real story here, and it deserves more attention than the cross-app context sharing. Shared context is a usability improvement; Skills is a distribution strategy. When an organization's approved variance analysis or pitch deck review process lives as a one-click action inside Claude's sidebar, the switching cost to any other AI tool rises sharply. Anthropic is essentially encoding institutional knowledge into its product layer—the same playbook that made Excel itself sticky for 40 years. The Bedrock, Vertex AI, and Foundry gateway support is equally deliberate: it tells enterprise IT that Claude fits inside compliance frameworks they already own, removing procurement friction. Microsoft built Copilot Cowork with Anthropic's help, yet Anthropic is simultaneously running its own parallel distribution inside Microsoft's applications. That is an unusual and aggressive position to hold inside a partner's ecosystem.

If your team runs recurring financial analysis or produces templated presentations, pilot Claude's Skills feature this quarter by encoding one standardized workflow before Q2 2026 budget reviews—establishing internal adoption before your organization standardizes on a competing tool.
